Good Surf Now

Live surf cams from your shack's rooftop β€” powered by local intelligence.

Good Surf Now is New Zealand's dedicated surf forecasting platform. Through the 'Surfshack Live Cam' initiative, select shack rooftops host surf cameras that feed real-time conditions back to the platform β€” in exchange for API access and featured listings on their forecast pages. When you check the surf before paddling out, you might be watching the view from where you'll sleep.

Guest journey

In-trip surf planning: real-time conditions at your local break so guests know exactly when to paddle out.

Starlink

Fast internet at the end of every gravel road β€” so you can work from the best breaks on earth.

Surfshack sits in some of New Zealand's most remote and beautiful coastal locations β€” the same places that historically had no reliable internet. Starlink's low-orbit satellite broadband changes that entirely. Every Surfshack comes with Starlink fitted, giving guests fast, low-latency connectivity whether they're at Shipwreck Bay in the Far North, the Catlins coast, or anywhere in between. For the growing wave of remote workers, the ability to run a full work day and still be in the water by 4pm is the entire point.

Guest journey

Remote work enabler: turns a 2-night weekend trip into a week-long stay. Guests who can work from anywhere will always choose the place with the best waves β€” and now they can.

Conscious Brand Partners

Premium eco-amenities that fund the restoration of the very breaks you're surfing.

Surfshack partners with certified eco-friendly brands β€” led by Ecostore, New Zealand's best-known sustainable personal care company β€” through our 'Impact Partnership' model. Rather than procuring standard hotel amenities, every SurfShack is fitted with refillable Ecostore dispensers. A portion of the operational savings flows directly into kelp forest restoration near each shack. Partners receive quarterly Impact Reports with verified restoration data β€” kelp canopy growth, biodiversity improvements, water quality metrics β€” tied to the specific break their products are helping protect.

Guest journey

In-stay conscious consumption: guests use products that actively fund the ocean outside their window. The QR code beside the dispenser links to a live restoration update from their specific beach.

NZ Surf Artists & Photographers

The culture of the wave, on your walls.

Every Surfshack is a gallery. We partner with New Zealand's best surf artists and photographers on a Slicing Pie equity model β€” they contribute original works and help tell the story of the local break in exchange for a revenue share in that specific shack. Current partners include Rambo Estrada (NZ surf documentary photography), Paper Rain Project (recycled materials ocean art), Flox / Hayley King (native NZ flora and birds), and NZ Surf Quest (limited-edition scratch-off surf maps).

Guest journey

Cultural immersion: guests leave knowing the name of the local artist, the story behind the break, and feeling connected to place β€” not just passing through.

Critical Design NZ

Ocean plastic collected from local beaches β€” turned into the walls of the shack.

Critical Design NZ manufactures Faux Namu Cleanstone cladding panels from 100% NZ plastic waste β€” ocean plastic and hard-to-recycle soft plastics collected from beaches before construction begins. The exterior walls of every Surfshack are formed from the very pollution they sit near β€” durable, fully waterproof, and endlessly recyclable. One of the most visible expressions of circular ocean restoration in the built environment.

Guest journey

The story that starts before arrival: guests know the walls around them were built from the beach they're standing on. That's a different kind of connection.
